“Mandragora (kinship)”, 110 x 64 cm, 2025, Acrylic on linen canvas

Emma Sloths “Mandragora (kinship)” is a powerful and symbolic tribute to both the mystique of nature and medieval spiritualy. The artwork is inspired by an old tale about the mandrake plant - a root said to scream when harvested. In folklore, its cry was believed to be deadly for those who heard it. The mandrake was furthermore believed to hold magical powers: love, fertility, and transformation. In “Mandragora (kinship)”, Emma Sloth reinterprets this symbolism with a modern and sensual visual language.
