Cosimo Casoni

“Playground 22 (Black Sunday)”, 50 x 40 cm, Oil, acrylic, marker and scratches on wood panel, 2025

This painting belongs to an ongoing series by Cosimoo Casoni now expanding 10 years of his career, focused on the urban element of children's playgrounds. Playgrounds are designed to give children freedom, combining simple structures into a playful path. In this series, he reimagines these forms, turning them into impossible architectures, mental constructions that could never exist in reality.

"Playground 22 (Black Sunday)" is a small-scale interpretation of this series. Recognizable architectural elements, painted in oil, mingle with seemingly clumsy marker lines. Though these lines also reference parts of the structure, they appear distorted, fragile, and vibrating, introducing a sense of precariousness into an otherwise solid and static subject.

The playground transforms from a children’s space into a mental space for adults, held up solely by paint.
