Painting by German artist Miriam Beichert

“FENCE III”, 70 x 50 cm, 2025, Acrylic on canvas

This was created for Miriam Beichert's solo FLICKER in Copenhagen. About the works for the exhibition, the artist states: "In this body of work, I focus on three recurring motifs: candles, fences, and clocks. These are everyday objects, but they carry symbolic meaning - a kind of mundane beauty and atmosphere that keeps drawing me back to them. Fences divide one space from another. Some clearly mark a boundary, yet you can still see through them - they separate without completely closing off. They act as symbols. These images appear again and again in my paintings because of what they suggest: a sense of time passing, and the quiet, poetic side of ordinary things. I approach painting the way one might recall a memory - not everything is clear or realistic. Some parts are more defined, others remain blurry or incomplete. I’m more interested in creating an atmosphere than depicting a detailed scene. Shapes and fragments emerge and develop intuitively, often by picking up a form and letting it grow on the canvas. Sometimes the work leans toward abstraction, sometimes it stays closer to figuration - but always in a way that leaves space open. I create paintings that feel like glimpses of a memory, a mood, or a moment that’s hard to capture fully. It’s less about telling a story and more about evoking a feeling or association."
