Philip Hauge Reitz

Philip Hauge Reitz (1994) is a self-taught visual artist working from his studio in the former architecture school on Paradisgade in central Aarhus. Before beginning his abstract and conceptual artistic practice in 2020, his background was in graphic design and electronic music production.

He works with two opposing worlds. System and chaos. Philip sees the tension and balance between these elements as a reflection of his inner life.

One half of his works consists of various systems, often built through many layered brushstrokes in different colors or through mixed media sourced from thrift shops and found materials.

The other half consists of works that focus on experimentation, new techniques, pushing boundaries, exploring alternative materials, responding to the moment, often shaped by humor and philosophy.

All his works are also given seemingly random titles, mostly unrelated to the painting itself, creating new associations and narratives for the viewer.

The inner journey and immediacy, both in the creative process and in observing the finished work, are what fascinate him.
