With “Imagine”, Johannes Ehemann wanted to explore children’s idea of the concept “home”. The painting depicts a drawing of a house on a piece of checkered school paper, seemingly ripped out of a notebook. Ehemann always cuts the unique shapes of the wood he paints on himself and adds depth with paint, so in this instance, he has cut out all the holes in the side to create the realistic shape of a ripped and crumbled sheet of paper.
