Philip Hauge Reitz’s works are often characterized by layer upon layer of systematic brushstrokes, in which the colors gradually build up a textured surface and a sense of time. In “Profit” this approach has been further developed by working directly on vintage cash report paper that already carry it’s own history. Here, an exciting dialogue emerges between past and present, where the delicate colors meet the paper’s patinated surfaces. The contrast between the fresh brushstrokes and the time-worn materials lends the works depth and character and underscores the artist’s fascination with beauty, memory, and the traces of time.
