Snakee car, 21 x 29,7 cm, 2024, Pencil on paper
"Snakee Car" by Abel Kabel depicts a car with an intriguing composition. The interior of the car is rendered in pitch black, interrupted only by a pair of staring eyes positioned in the passenger seat. The absence of eyes in the driver’s seat evokes themes of helplessness or a loss of control, suggesting a feeling of being a passive observer rather than an active participant in one’s circumstances. Kabel drew inspiration from an online reference of a Mercedes wrapped in snakeskin, which adds a compelling conceptual backdrop to the piece. Beyond the car, the drawing features floating hands and yellow-framed scorpions in the corners, further heightening the mysterious and otherworldly atmosphere. These elements create a sense of unease, inviting the viewer to explore deeper interpretations of control, self-determination, and vulnerability.
