A plastic table, once used to hold paint trays, becomes the “field”; the surface upon which to paint. The accidental traces and splashes left on the table during the making of previous works already form an involuntary piece of informal abstraction. Upon this spontaneous background, two carefully rendered oil-painted elements are superimposed.

The first is a small, “glitched” skateboard ramp that appears to float unsupported in space, scattered with vibrant splashes of color. Above it, a trompe-l’œil depicts two pencils and an eraser arranged in such a way that they evoke a second, suspended skateboard ramp.

The Jump thus unfolds as a mental landscape. A space where the dialogue between figurative elements and abstract grounds generates a sense of playfulness and tension.
